Andrew Auernheimer, 24, also known in the hacker community as Escher and Weev, has been arrested for posession of cocaine, LSD and ecstasy after the execution of a search warrant at his Arkansas apartment by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He is a member of Goatse Security, the hacker group that exposed the security flaw that allowed iPad users' information to be pulled from the AT&T web site. Auernheimer was charged with four felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor charge.
The FBI detected the drugs while executing a search warrant at Auernheimer's apartment related to a security breach on an AT&T (NYSE:T) Web application that enabled hackers to obtain around 114,000 e-mail addresses of Apple(NSDQ:AAPL) iPad 3G customers. Some of the affected iPad customers included high-profile executives, military personnel and politicians, including New York Times Co. CEO Janet Robinson and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
